Delicious Sgroppino Drink Recipe

Emma Farr, marketing assistant, recently had the unique opportunity to have an extended visit exploring Europe and shares some of her culinary adventures with us.

Northern Italy was my home during the week, and I used the weekends to travel around.  I used my time during the week to take cooking courses and familiarize myself with Italian cuisine. Needless to say, I fell in love with the culture and the flavors.  I am so excited to integrate the things I’ve learned and the flavors I’ve experienced into the menu development process here at Utah Food Services. It’s the only way I know to share my experience with the people here at home.

The first recipe I’d like to share is called a sgroppino (pronounced “scorp-pee-no”) which quickly became one of my favorite dessert drinks. This drink originates in Venice, and is served in many Northern Italian restaurants for free at the end of your meal.  There are a couple of variations of sgroppino and it honestly depends on how much you are wanting to spend. Here are the variations that I’ve used:

You will need:

-2 Cups Lemon Sorbetto (sorbet) or Lemon Gelatto

-1 Shot Lemon vodka or Limoncello

-½ Cup Prosecco

1. Put your sorbetto or gelato in a metal bowl and gently whisk in your Vodka or Limoncello

2. When your mixture is combined, add Prosecco and lightly stir

3. Enjoy!
